After earning her BS in Mathematics from Oklahoma State University, she worked as an engineer for Bell Telephone Companies and then married Mick, whose project engineer career required them to move frequently - 23 times in 23 years. Kathrine stayed home to raise their son Matt and home-educate him through high school. Through the years, she enjoyed a wide variety of creative pursuits, but it was not until she experienced "empty nest:" that she begin to realize her dream of painting fine art. A perfectly timed transfer to Ponca City, Oklahoma, allowed Kathrine to learn to paint under the tutelage of her mother, Shirley Petersen, an accomplished artist and teacher. Since 2001 Kathrine has studied under several other artists in the Midwest and has been enthusiastically encouraged to develop her latent talent. Her work has appeared in a number of regional juried exhibitions and has received numberous awards. She has watercolor and oil paintings in private and corporate collections throughout the South and Midwest, including commissioned works of landscapes and portraits. Kathrine is currently a member of the Ponca City Art Association, the Cinco Ranch Area Art League and the Katy Art Guild. | |||||||||||||||||
